Windows 11 23H2 – Windows Update
The rollout of Windows 11 Feature Update 23H2 is imminent. Microsoft discreetly offers a Windows configuration update. It targets specific PCs. Explanation.
In fact, Windows 11 computers that have the “Get latest updates as soon as they are available” option enabled recently had access to a strange update. This option provides early access to critical updates, fixes, and non-security improvements as they become available.
To go back to this strange Windows configuration update: KB5030509. It does not contain any notable improvements or changes. On the other hand, the fact that it is available when the “Get latest updates as soon as they are available” option is active suggests that it will likely determine some of the goals of the first wave of 23H2 deployment.
Windows 11 23H2, a phased deployment
Microsoft uses CFR technology for Windows 11 or Edge updates. CFR is the contraction of VSunrolled FEat ROllouts. The idea is to enable the new features gradually so that critical bugs can be addressed before deployment on a larger scale. Once the operation is complete, the major new features will be rolled out to all PCs during a Patch Tuesday.
The introduction of the “Get latest updates as soon as they are available” option in Windows Update allows you to ignore certain waiting lists to get new features as quickly as possible.
As of Moment 3, this option doesn’t allow anything special, but things seem to be evolving. Microsoft is preparing the first steps of Windows 11 23H2 with the release of KB5030509. Everything indicates that without its activation it will not be possible to take advantage of new features before the large-scale deployment on the occasion of a future Patch Tuesday or an optional update.
It is reported that Microsoft has already started adding the new features from 23H2 to 22H2, but has not activated them. Regarding the official launch of Windows 11 23H2, an announcement would be planned for September 21st.
