Windows 11 and KB5030310, many problems occur – GinjFo

An optional Windows 11 update has attracted a lot of attention in recent days. It is called KB5030310 and offers several important new features associated with it such as Copilot Assistant and the new File Explorer. Unfortunately, not everything is perfect as there were installation problems.

One of the most frequently mentioned errors concerns the most used application of the operating system, File Explorer. The new version seems to suffer from performance issues. The situation is annoying as the company mentions KB5030310 as an update that improves the Windows 11 v22H2 experience. We must therefore remain cautious in the face of this problematic situation.

Feedback mentions issues with the taskbar, ranging from appearance issues to a non-functioning search box. One user explains

I installed the KB5030310 update and rebooted if necessary after installation. Now the search box only blinks when I click on it. As a temporary solution, I changed the Search icon and label. If I set it to Icon Only, a magnifying glass appears. However, when I select “Search Box” again, I am left with a magnifying glass icon.

Microsoft would be informed of this error.

The copilot assistant would also be affected by problems. Microsoft has identified two concerns so far. The first meets the narrator. Several bugs are reported as problems reading certain Wizard buttons, including the Delete Image button, or silent mode when reading the names of certain dialogs or buttons associated with certain skills. Likewise, adding an image to the chat input area does not trigger narrator announcements.

The WallpaperEngine application, in turn, would have difficulty affecting the desktop background. In some cases, the definition can be changed, forcing the software to adapt accordingly, which can lead to a freeze on certain systems.

Windows 11 and KB5030310, File Explorer is broken

Users also report numerous problems with File Explorer. We can quote

  • Application crashes,
  • Performance issues with slowness,
  • Excessive use of system RAM,
  • A reduced size of quick access icons,
  • The sorting option no longer works or has stopped working. The files appear to be poorly organized because older OneDrive files have timestamps that approximate the time the KB5030310 update was installed.
  • The Sort drop-down menu becomes unresponsive, disabling the ability to sort OneDrive files by their modified date.

Some feedback mentions black screens, PC crashes, and display limited to the mouse cursor. One of the advanced solutions is to restart the PC. KB5030310 also appears to be an issue with AMD’s Software Adrenalin 23.9.3 drivers. No solution has been found so far. Removing the drivers and resetting the BIOS proved unsuccessful.
