Windows 11 – Alt + Tab function setting
Microsoft is planning a big change around Alt+Tab functionality in Windows 11. It will affect all apps that use tabs.
There is a lot of software in Windows 11 that relies on tabs. For example, we can name the explorer or the edge browser. The software giant is working on a major modification of the Alt+Tab function. In the future it is possible that it will be limited to displaying the last 20 tabs.
This change was observed in the latest OS Previews released through the Windowsns Inisder program Canary, Dev, and Beta channels. It is present in the settings (System > Multitasking). Microsoft no longer talks about showing the last “edge tabs when snapping or pressing Alt + Tab” but about applications in general.
Windows 11 Preview – Alt+Tab Changes
It’s possible that the company wants to simplify the display by avoiding too many tabs that can cause confusion.

Removed the “All Tabs” option next to “5 Recent Tabs, 3 Recent Tabs, and Hide Tabs” and introduced a 20-tab limit.
It’s also possible that Microsoft introduces this limit to reduce RAM requirements. In fact, the Edge browser can quickly become very resource intensive, especially if its idle tabs standby feature is not enabled.
This new alt-tab behavior is available with Windows 11 22624.1537 (Beta Channel), 23424 (DEV Channel), or 25330 (Canary Channel).
