Windows: do a (real) cleaning in the applications that start at startup – Begeek.fr

Cleaning startup applications on Windows is very easy thanks to a tool offered by Microsoft.

All long-time users of Window know how frustrating it can be waiting for apps and services to fully load so you can do what you need to do. Recent Windows and SSD improvements make things faster, of course, but the problem runs deeper. Some apps, native or not, are too “sticky” and stubbornly launch when your computer boots. And some don’t have an option to prevent this behavior.

Oddly enough, there is a solution to this problem and it comes from Microsoft. The giant manages and distributes software called Autoruns, which is designed and designed to disable apps and services that use the autorun process. But it is possible to use autoruns to stop these unwanted apps permanently.

First, download the autoruns zip file and install it wherever you want. Launch the app and prepare to ignore most of the tabs and information that appear.

Go straight to the Sign-in tab, which only shows apps that launch when the user signs in. You can scroll to find the app you want to remove and uncheck the box. It’s certainly handcrafted, but the game is worth the candle. And the beauty of it is that your machine stays in that configuration unless you cancel the manipulation yourself by checking the box again.

Granted, the list is long. If you are only looking for recently installed third-party apps, click the “Hide Windows Entries” button. The list is also speckled in color depending on Microsoft’s permission level: yellow means the application isn’t found on the system, and red means it’s not approved by Microsoft (which doesn’t mean it’s evil).

And now, voila! If you’re curious, you can take a tour of the Autoruns app to see what it has to offer, such as learning everything that happens at launch. The Drives section will show you all the drivers. In the Services section, you can discover possible malicious services. Each service also has its own short description line, which you should read carefully before deactivating. And in general, you should not disable Windows services.
