After a year full of effort and dedication, 16yearold Letícia Sassi Ramiro, a student at the Colégio Estadual Lucia Alves de Oliveira Schoffen in Altônia, is setting off for Canada next Sunday (28). She and other students from the region have been selected for the Winning the World program offered by the Government of Paraná through the State Department of Education and will study for six months in the North American country. In November last year they went to the Federal Police (PF) headquarters in Guaíra to collect their passports.

The student living in the municipality of São Marcos, daughter of a cashier and a gas station attendant, has always been closely connected to books and other cultures and will spend six months as an exchange student. Together with other students she sets off for Altônia. From there we continue to Curitiba. Then they take a flight to São Paulo and from São Paulo they go to Canada. The student's mother, Adrieli Sassi, says her daughter is really looking forward to the trip.

“It is a very enriching experience for them. In the family she goes to, there are two exchange students, one from South Korea and one from Germany, so she can get to know other cultures in addition to Canadian culture,” he emphasizes.

Letícia was very hardworking and always very committed to her studies. In addition to getting grades above 80, he uses his cell phone very little and spends much of the day reading and learning other languages using free applications. The mother says that she always encouraged her daughter to acquire new knowledge from a young age.

“She really enjoys reading. I have already bought many books. She mainly uses her phone to play with her brother, but she usually does research. She enjoys learning other languages through English and Spanish apps. She says she wants to be a flight attendant and travel the world and go to other countries,” he says.

Although Adrieli is excited about her daughter's trip, she is also worried. The exchange student has two other siblings, Lucas, 9 years old, and Luiza, 3 months old. The mother is very attached to her family and emphasizes that she still doesn't know how to deal with her homesickness, but that technology should help a lot in the distance.

“We always think about time because our longest absence was a week. We were always very close. “I have a little baby that she takes care of. “So we will miss her very much, but with the video call it is now much easier to satisfy the longing,” he emphasizes.
