Wired headphones aren’t dead, Sennheiser is launching a pair aimed at audiophiles – Frandroid

Sennheiser used CES 2023 to present the IE 200, a new wired headphone that is primarily intended for lovers of realistic sound.

If the wireless headphone market has visibly boomed when it comes to Nomadic Audio over the past few years, that doesn’t mean that wired headphones have had their last word. Granted, Sennheiser used CES 2023 in Las Vegas to unveil a new headphone that doubles as a hearing aid, but the manufacturer also announced a new wired headphone for audiophiles during the Las Vegas show, the Sennheiser Dh 200.

As a reminder, Sennheiser’s IE range is the equivalent of the German brand’s in-ear headphones. These are headphones that are primarily intended to enjoy good sound quality through an inevitably lossless transmission – in contrast to Bluetooth transmission with codecs, which inevitably compress the sound quality.

Headphones for natural sound

Technically, the Sennheiser IE 200 are in-ear headphones with detachable cables. A good point as this is often the element that breaks first on wired headphones and is therefore easy to replace. The headphones also contain an extra-wideband transducer with a diameter of 7 mm, which is intended to reproduce all audible frequencies. Sennheiser also communicates a particularly “natural” sound signature that is worthy of high-end headphones and should satisfy audiophiles. Sennheiser also supplies several pairs of attachments in different sizes and materials – foam or silicone – with its headphones.

Of course, to enjoy the audio quality of this type of headphones, you still need the sources and a compatible device. Rather, they are recommended for use in conjunction with a high-quality DAC, for example on a dedicated audio player. The headphones should also stand out with audio files of good quality, be it in CD quality or with high-definition titles.

The Sennheiser IE 200 earphones can already be pre-ordered and will be available in stores from January 31st. They are issued at a price of 149.90 euros.
