“Wish”: Disney Studios 100th anniversary film pays homage to past productions
“Wish, the power of wishes” is the film that celebrates the 100th anniversary of Disney Studios.
It was the studio's classics that directors Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn performed “Frozen”sought inspiration to create “Wish.”
“We have returned to our roots. We created a board with photos of all the Disney films. They are beautiful images and different color palettes, but they all have one thing in common,” says Chris Buck.
“We wanted to honor the legacy of our films, but also look to the future, to new generations,” says Fawn.
The name was inspired by Disney fans with producer Juan Pablo Reyes. “We ask people how a Disney film makes them feel. And people said 'joy', 'hope'… and then came the word 'desire', which we used as a guide for the film.”
“Wish” takes place in the fictional kingdom of Rosas an island between Africa and Europe where, at first glance, all wishes are fulfilled. When she discovers that the king is manipulating his subjects' dreams, young Asha decides to challenge the ruler.
The flexibility of actress Ariana DeBose, who won the Oscar for a supporting role in 2022 for her role in “Amor, Sublime Amor,” determined the pace of the heroine. The animators used the actress's movements to put her in the character 'Asha'.
In Brazil, Asha was voiced by actress Luci Salutes. The songs were also in Portuguese, sung by Solange Almeida, Di Ferrero and Xande de Pilares.
Asha faces the handsome and seductive King Magnificent, a character animated by Brazilian Renato dos Anjos. The inspiration came from another classic Disney villain Cruella from Sleeping Beauty.
“He has to be a charming character so that when people see the film and the audience, they believe that the whole town believed in this guy. That’s because of the charm he has,” emphasizes Renato dos Anjos, animation supervisor.
Actor Chris Pine, known for many heroes, was on the other side of history this time.
“A villain makes everything more interesting. It's not enough to seem bad, he must have charm, the ability to inspire empathy and compassion for his side of the story. But deep down, the Magnificent is an insecure guy who needs his charm.” “I want to tell my wife that everything about him is good and beautiful,” says Chris Pine.
The scenes from “Wish The Power of Wishes” Homage to productions from the past. Films that are anchored in the memory of several generations.
