Rio Rio Parada Funk is back for its tenth edition, bringing together all the generations and trends of funk music. The event will take place this Sunday (6) from 11am to 7pm at Praça da Apoteose in central Rio. Entry is free and you must bring 1kg of nonperishable groceries. Tickets can be picked up on the Sympla website before the dance begins.

The project was completed in 2021 after 10 years but due to the Covid19 pandemic it had to be done in a live format and without an audience as it was broadcast directly from Rocinha. This year the event celebrates its big comeback with 11 sound teams and various attractions like DJ Rennan da Penha and MC Smith.

Rio Parada Funk emerged in 2011 as a form of resistance because of the 2007 creation of “Resolution 013,” a measure that banned funk dancing in Rio’s communities and increased the repression of favela culture. This is how the idea came about to organize “the biggest funk dance in the world” in the city center with several walls of sound.

According to the Rio Operations Center, CETRio has set up a special traffic system in the city center and some of its approaches for the 10th Funk Parade. The changes include driving bans on some streets from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and reinforcement of the city guard and traffic officers.

Roads closed this Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (6):
