Manchester City were crowned champions of the Club World Cup, becoming one of the select teams to win this valuable and coveted competition. As many will remember, the tournament replaced the old one Copa Intercontinental and from 2005 was played in an ambitious format involving clubs from all confederations.
The champions of the Copa Libertadores (Conmebol), the Champions League (UEFA), the AFC (Asia), the CAF (Africa), the Concacaf (Concacaf) and the OFC (Oceania) take part in the competition. Although there are representatives from all five continents, only teams from Europe and South America have managed to win the Club World Cup.
