Fantástico accompanies recordings from the series “João Sem Deus A Queda de Abadiânia”
A fiction based on a true and despicable story: a famous medium who abused the faith and hundreds of women for 45 years.
“João Sem Deus A Queda de Abadiânia” tells the story that takes place ten days before the first accusation against the medium João de Deus in the program “Conversa com Bial” and continues until his arrest.

In the plot, Cecilia Seek help for a health problem. Her sister Carmen accompanies her. These are fictional characters who do not represent real people and were victims. At the same time, she is like almost every woman who has been abused.
According to the director, particular attention was paid to depicting the abuse.
“We managed to shoot the rape scenes in a way that doesn’t look as grotesque as reality, you know? I think the reality is very harsh,” says director Marina Person.

The small town of Abadiânia in Goiás, where spiritual care and sexual abuse took place, was transported to a studio Sao Paulo. O Fantastic followed the recordings of a predominantly female team.
“In every phase, in every area, in every department, in everything we could, we brought in this female perspective,” says the director.
For the crimes he committed, João de Deus was sentenced to a total of almost 500 years in prison. He is currently under house arrest for health reasons.
João de Deus is played by Marco Nanini, who talks about the challenges he faced in composing the character.
“It is a journalistic and fictional series at the same time. I’ve never experienced the challenge of playing a living person. It’s the first time. I didn’t want to make a copy at all, I wanted to play the character, the emotions I would feel in those situations. And that’s what I did,” he says.
