The star was referring to the sketch he filmed with the Queen, in which he took on the role of James Bond, with the couple leaving Buckingham Palace in a helicopter to celebrate the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Games.

In an iconic moment, a stunt double jumped out of the helicopter as if it were the monarch herself, who then dramatically appeared at her seat in the Olympic Stadium.

Adam, taking the place of lead singer Freddie Mercury, appeared on stage in front of a line of palace officials playing drums and began belting out We Will Rock You for their opening number.

It comes 20 years after guitarist Brian May performed God Save The Queen on the roof of Buckingham Palace during a Golden Jubilee show in 2002.

The Rocketman hitmaker was projected into Buckingham Palace as he paid tribute to the Queen, before playing the piano and singing in a pre-taped show from Windsor Castle.

As he sang, he appeared at the Palace with the lyrics to his hit song appearing alongside him, silencing the crowd as they were awed by the performance.

DJ Jax Jones was the next singer to take the stage and perform instructions, with a special appearance from 10-year-old Nandi Bushell on drums.
