In an interview with the Mail on Sunday, Jamie Spears defended his behavior by declaring that he loves his daughter
Jamie Spear had managed to secure a guardian for Britney, a sort of legal institution reserved for the very old or people who couldn’t understand or want anymore, after her daughter suffered a couple of nervous breakdowns under the photographers’ flashes. The pop star’s legal battle to break free from her sluggish father culminated in November 2021, when a Los Angeles court ruled guardianship illegal and gave Britney access to a credit card for the first time in years.
Jamie Spears told the British tabloid he didn’t want to spill the beans lest Britney “fall into a black hole” worse than before. “It was hell but I don’t know if she would still be alive without the guardianship. To protect them and the children, guardianship was a great tool. Without her, I don’t know if she would have her back,” he said of Preston and Jayden, the teenage sons of Britney and Kevin Federline, who have lived with their father for years.
Britney Spears and Federline divorced in 2007, after which she began acting oddly: She’d shaved her head, put an umbrella on a photographer’s car, and been hospitalized for drug addiction. At that time, legal protection was created, which was initially intended to be temporary, but became permanent after a few months. For a monthly fee of $16,000, Jamie had now gained complete control of her daughter’s finances and all decisions regarding her career.
