Taylor Swift and actor Joe Alwyn have split after six years together. The news, released by Entertainment Tonight over the weekend, surprised the couple’s fans and, according to the publication, the decision should have been made a few weeks ago. Earlier this Monday (10), sources close to the former couple revealed to People magazine the reasons for the end of their relationship: the blonde’s difficulties in dealing with the artist’s fame and the “differences in their personalities”.

“They’ve had rough times before and they always worked things out, so friends figured they’d spend some time apart but eventually get back together. They ended up not being a good match,” the insider said.

While socially isolating at home, the two have been able to live peacefully without the singer’s vocal harassment. “They had a lot in common and fell in love with a safe bubble when she retired from the world during Reputation. Then the pandemic came and they stuck together, they could continue to grow in their relationship in this isolated way. But he didn’t really know her outside of that bubble yet,” the source explained.

According to the witness, Swift’s notoriety would have influenced the actor. “Joe struggled with Taylor’s fame and public attention. The differences in their personalities are harder to ignore, even after years together. They distanced themselves,” he explained.

The two began dating in late 2016. Friends of the couple later claimed that the romance was “going really well” and that the relationship was “really strong.” Recently, the Grammy winner revealed on her Instagram that “Lavender Haze,” the title of the album Midnights, was about her lover.

Over the course of the sixyear relationship, Taylor released 10 songs that he cowrote or coproduced with Joe, who worked under the pseudonym William Bowery. Collaborations include six songs on the Folklore album, three songs on Evermore, and the track “Sweet Nothing” on Midnights.

Rumors surfaced in June last year that Tay and Joe were engaged, but according to the source, they’re not “ready for a future together.” “Taylor hasn’t seen them train for the long haul. The breakup happened recently and wasn’t dramatic. They are friends. She has nothing bad to say about Joe. They just broke up. Taylor is very focused on her tour right now.”
