WNBA: A first title for the Las Vegas Aces

For the first time in their history, the Las Vegas Aces were crowned champions of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) at Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday.

The Nevada team defeated the Connecticut Sun 78-71 in Game 4 of the finals, played in a three-on-five format.

Point guard Chelsea Gray was named Most Valuable Player of the Finals. She averaged 18 points per game against Sun and finished the game with 20 points, five rebounds and six assists.

WNBA Player of the Year winner A’ja Wilson also continued to inspire. His three consecutive baskets in the fourth quarter allowed him to restore the lead.

On the Sun’s side, Courtney Williams has been the most prolific on the floor. She had 17 points and six rebounds.

The Aces had a terrific season and also had the best record of the regular season.

Since joining the league in 1997, the Aces have also been known as the Utah Starzz, San Antonio Silver Stars, and San Antonio Stars.
