In a tragic incident in Thoraipakkam, Chennai (India), R. Nandhini, a 25yearold girl, was the victim of a brutal attack on Christmas Eve. The attacker, identified as Vetrimaran, was a longtime friend who had undergone gender reassignment surgery from female to male. According to local newspapers, he went through the process to be with the victim, with whom he had been in love since childhood.

However, Nandhini rejected Vetrimaran's marriage proposal. The young woman expressed interest in another person within the IT company where she worked.

Not accepting the rejection, Vetrimaran invited Nandhini for a motorcycle ride the day before Christmas and lured her with the promise of a surprise gift. What followed, however, was a terrible conspiracy.

The report submitted to police described the victim being locked in a vacant lot, chained and begging to be released. Vetrimaran mercilessly stabbed Nandhini before pouring kerosene on her and setting her on fire.

After the gruesome attack, Vetrimaran even took her to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately Nandhini did not survive due to severe burns that covered a large part of her body and passed away. The attacker confessed to the heinous crime to the police.
