A Thai woman who had her fingers and toes amputated while being examined to treat severe diarrhea has filed a complaint against a hospital.
As we reported this Wednesday, the 30yearold patient from Chon Buri was admitted to a medical center and hospitalized with diarrhea and changes in blood pressure.
Upon arrival, the doctor informed the patient that she had kidney failure and needed dialysis. In order to carry out the necessary procedures, Chai was given a consent form asking for permission to be examined. Trusting the doctor’s expertise, he signed the document as detailed on Thaiger’s website.
However, Chai, 42, was shocked to later learn that his wife had undergone appendectomy.
Her husband also stated that she was not seen by a doctor while she was hospitalized because of a local holiday.
Over time, Chai noticed that his wife’s condition was deteriorating. Her fingers and toes began to die off and she seemed unresponsive to conversations, prompting doctors to investigate what was going on.
Eventually, it turned out that the woman was suffering from sepsis, a serious blood infection that can cause oxygen levels to drop.
During the rescue attempt, doctors had to amputate all fingers of the right hand, several fingers of the left hand and all toes.
The couple expressed their confusion and questioned why severe diarrhea could lead to such extreme measures. Chai stated that his wife has always been in good health and the annual checkups have taken place without any significant concerns.
However, it is still unclear how the patient’s condition worsened. According to the information, the hospital recognized the seriousness of the situation and should investigate the case.
