AUGUST | It is difficult to understand how Monet Chun experiences his emotions. The Canadian quietly admitted she wasn’t entirely satisfied with her final round at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship late in the afternoon.

The 22-year-old golfer made several unforgivable mistakes, including attacking pennants directly and misjudging distances. Several of his five bogeys on his 77 (+5) card are direct errors.
At the legendary Augusta National course, Chun tied for sixth prior to this final round, falling to 14th on a +3 cumulative performance.
She discreetly admitted to being a little disappointed in her day of not making any birdies. However, it should be mentioned that the conditions at the beginning of the day were not optimal. The wind played some nasty tricks on him and when rain hit the game late in the morning, officials suspended play for just over three hours due to the threat of thunderstorms in the area. On the way back, the softer surfaces were therefore a bit slower.
“It was difficult on the track because the wind was blowing very hard, she reported gusts of 50 km/h. I struggled to keep the ball on the greens. Other than that, I think I’ve handled things well.”
Bad decisions
Along the ropes, his instructor, Matt Wilson, spotted some gaps that he rarely noticed. He noticed her, but didn’t blame her since it was an official first round on the Augusta National fairways.
“She needs to improve her decision making ahead of her approach shots to the flag on similar courses. She has to analyze her surroundings carefully, assess the conditions better and choose the right stick. Especially on such firm, fast and inclined surfaces, Wilson analyzed, still very proud of his protégé.
“I know that she is not very satisfied and disappointed. Her expectations are high and she wants to win. She must learn from this experience, he added in a conversation with the journal under the Great Oak near the first hill
“In windy conditions, there are more slips and it’s harder to get out of dead ends. I think a little more “local” knowledge could have made the difference. Because these mistakes almost all cost a bogey.”
Loyal to his sister
This issue is quite sensitive because, like in the first two rounds, Chun was flanked by his sister Adele in this last round. He is not used to the cadet’s job. But she knows how to distract them in time and not put too much emphasis on the game.
However, knowledge of the course is essential. During the practice round, the golfer was accompanied by a caddy with twenty years experience at the prestigious Washington Road Club.
“I did well on this course. At least I think so. I’ve juggled some bad situations on the greens, true, but I got through it,” said Chun.
Still, if she had to make the same decision again, she wouldn’t ignore her sister.
