Women’s hockey: A changing of the guard in the Premier Hockey Federation?

The Fédération de Hockey Première (FHP), a women’s professional ice hockey league affiliated with Force de Montréal, was purchased by the Mark Walter Group and the Billie Jean King Company.

According to The Athletic, the FHP and the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association (PWHPA), another professional women’s federation, signed a memorandum of understanding in May 2022 to explore the possibility of forming a professional league with those two companies.

The same source also reports that the two organizations were briefed on the agreement at two separate meetings on Thursday.

Founded in 2015 as the National Women’s Hockey League, the FHP currently consists of seven teams, two of which are based in Canada. They are La Force de Montréal and the Toronto Six.

The Montreal organization has not commented on the case.

The PWHPA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting women’s professional ice hockey. Star players Marie-Philip Poulin and Hilary Knight are part of this round.
