World Health Organization praises Vietnam’s successes

In a congratulatory message posted here, Ghebreyesus expressed his pride in witnessing the changes in healthcare that have taken place in this Indochinese nation in the last few decades.

Since 1945, the country’s life expectancy has increased significantly, with dramatic declines in preventable diseases, including the eradication of polio, and major advances in the fight against malaria, HIV and tuberculosis, he noted.

The WHO Director-General also highlighted the expansion of the health insurance system and progress in addressing risk factors for non-communicable diseases, such as reducing smoking rates.

In another part of his video, reviewed by VNA news agency, Ghebreyesus stressed that Vietnam has demonstrated its ability to respond strongly to the Covid-19 with the comprehensive and rapid implementation of the vaccination program and attention to the most vulnerable groups -Pandemic response population.

In conclusion, he expressed the full commitment of this organization to maintain strong coordination and support for the country on its path to a healthier, safer and more prosperous life for all people.

With a population now reaching 100 million, Vietnam increased life expectancy to 73.6 years and has maintained replacement fertility rates over the past three decades while significantly reducing infant and child mortality.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, according to preliminary figures, more than 10 billion dollars were mobilized nationwide to combat it, of which more than eight billion came from the state budget and the rest from aid sources, mainly for vaccines.

According to the Ministry of Health, since the beginning of the pandemic as of yesterday, 11,623,774 patients have been registered nationwide, of which 43,206 have died. The number of vaccine doses administered has now reached more than 266 million 500,000.
