Prominent attendees included Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a close Qatar ally, and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Presidents of Egypt and Algeria and the Secretary General of the United Nations were also present at the glittering opening ceremony of the first World Cup in the Middle East.
