The text of the quote called on the media to address the urgent demands of developing countries in areas such as poverty alleviation, food security, financing for development and industrialization.
“Uncertainties and unpredictable factors are increasing, posing unprecedented challenges to human society. More than ever, the international community needs to strengthen unity and cooperation. “The global media must build a communication bridge to answer the questions raised by the world,” the document says.
The statement advocates journalistic ethics and adherence to professional standards in a scenario characterized by the rapid advance of new technologies in the information age.
“We should provide our audiences with factual, objective, complete and impartial news, resist misinformation and counter rumors and prejudices to maintain the authority and credibility of the media,” he stressed.
The summit called for building consensus, strengthening cooperation and working together for high-quality development and facilitating mutual understanding between countries and peoples.
Participants in the event include media, think tanks and international organizations from more than 100 countries and regions.
The World Media Summit runs until December 7th under the motto “Strengthening Global Trust, Promoting Media Development”.
During the event, Prensa Latina advocated for a new international information order and defended the voice of the Global South.
Latin American News Agency President Luis Enrique González noted that participants in the debates talked about giving more power to communications through the use of artificial intelligence, technology and innovation.
“This purpose is valid, but it is necessary to promote equal access for media from the Global South, such as Cuba, which face restrictions, sanctions and blockades that prevent them from using new tools,” he stressed.
The manager believed that the summit was an appropriate setting for exchanges on objectivity, credibility and ethics given the escalation of fake news in various media, including social networks.
