World Speed Skating Championships: Laurent Dubreuil takes 5th place and has to forget about the overall title

Jordan Stolz and Laurent Dubreuil gave the fans who filled the ice center quite a spectacle and it was the American who emerged with top honors.

Still in contention for a third consecutive overall title, Dubreuil finished in 5th place with a time of 34 and 81 seconds. Stolz froze the time at 34 and 36 seconds and won his third gold medal this weekend, a feat he also achieved last weekend in front of his fans in Salt Lake City.

Dubreuil was ahead of Mataru Morishige, who finished sixth with a time of 34.85, but it wasn't enough to beat the Japanese overall.

Due to his four wins, Morishige finished the season with 483 points, compared to 466 for the Lévis skater, who secured second place.

Stolz's time of 34.36 represents a course record. The previous mark of 34.37, set in October 2022, belonged to Dubreuil.
