World Synod: Work Begins on the Instrumentum Laboris Vatican News English

Experts from all countries will spend a week reflecting on the drafting of the working document for the first session of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops.

From the morning of this Wednesday, April 12, until April 19, a group of experts from five continents will meet at the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops in the Vatican. They are participants who participated in the synodal process in various ways. They meet at the General Secretariat of the Synod to consider the continental stage and the seven final documents of the Continental Synodal Assemblies. The objective was to initiate reflections that would later lead to the writing of the Instrumentum Laboris, the working document for the first session of the XVI. Synod of Bishops on the subject of synodality, as announced by the Secretariat.

The Continental Synodal Assemblies

After a time of prayer and an introductory session, the work will include a comprehensive exchange on the entire continental stage and the experiences made during the seven continental synodal assemblies. Then, the final documents received by the General Secretariat of the Synod will be analyzed in depth and, therefore, “the fruit of the discernment of communion of the people of God”, “to identify tensions and priorities to be deepened in the October assembly”, the World Conference said the organizers of the Synod. The days will be marked by the daily celebration of the Eucharist and moments of personal and community prayer. The work takes place behind closed doors.
