The oldest dog in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records, is dead. Rafeiro dog named Bobi died aged 31 at his home in the Portuguese village of Conqueiros, his owner, Leonel Costa, told local media on Monday. Thus, Bobi spent his last happy moments in his home. He “made a lot of people happy, especially his family,” Costa said.

Guinness World Records named the animal the oldest dog in the world in February. When authorities confirmed Bobi’s age at 30 years and 266 days, Rafeiro became the oldest dog ever. As announced by Guinness World Records, Bobi died at 31 years and 165 days.

Rafeiro dogs typically have a fairly long average life expectancy for dogs of twelve to 14 years. According to her owner, the secret to Bobi’s long life was her loving home – surrounded by cats in a small village.
