If World of Warcraft fans were stunned with the presentation of the trailer for the ninth expansion of their favorite MMO Dragonflight, another surprise (which ended up not really being one) was reserved this Tuesday evening, April 19th: the formalization of the return of the Lich King in the classic version in the coming time, in the year 2022.
Wrath of the Lich King Classic release date orphaned for now

Yes, rather… But it’s just a postponement and we should know more in the coming weeks or months. The Death Knights and the Return to Northrend
If this will be a first voyage to the frozen lands of Northrend for some, for the oldest among us it will be just another return to the Lich King’s frozen continent. Grizzly Hills, Sholazar Basin and its enemy tribes, Ulduar and Icecrown Citadel : so many raids and regions that players loved then and will be back in the spotlight for the months to come.
Of course, the then new class is also in the limelight: the first hero class in World of Warcraft, the death knight. The lore of this class is too advanced to cover in a simple article like this, but keep in mind that this class wears plate armor, knows how to tank and does damage per second, and takes the top spots in raids for the entire expansion at that time. Convinced? If so, start your death knight in good old Acherus Fortress in Eastern Plaguelands, level 55.. You’ll need to travel the vast expanses of Outland to perfect your leveling, and all this with just a few weeks before the release of the Wrath of the Lich King Classic expansion. Ion Hazzikostas emphasized this point during the expansion’s presentation, arguing that players would certainly be happy to be able to do it a little in advance.

Wrath of the Lich King Raids and Dungeons: Masterclass after masterclass
If you’re lucky enough to have never set foot in Northrend before, we envy you. If the flavor and colors of snowy, lush, or arid regions are entirely questionable, much less so the quality of raids and dungeons offered throughout the expansion. Not everything will be available at launch if Blizzard follows the same roadmap as before, but you should have access to the “new” version of Naxxramas in the Dragonblight, with the Infernal Quest titled “The Immortal” as well as the Lair of Sartharion , which you can face between 0 and 3 additional dragons of your choice. Quite an epic fight for the time that should bring back good memories. Malygos will also be available in his Eye of Eternity from the start. And we won’t offend you by quoting everything but between Ulduar and its first rather insane “hard mode” fights (Mimiron with the red button, Yogg-Saron 0 Warden…), the Icecrown Citadel with Arthas for the end of the Colosseum expansion… There are so many exciting fights that it’s almost indecent.
As for the dungeons, those of Utgarde and the Nexus will mark your start of leveling, and you’ll end up in the rooms of stone or lightning to hunt down Dark Iron dwarves. A pastime like any other that will serve you well for at least one Ulduar boss and their assigned achievement.
You’ll understand, we’re pretty hyped here by this announcement, or at least this confirmation that Wrath of the Lich King will be released someday. Nostalgia should be there, and in the end that’s all we ask, right?
