The Road to WrestleMania continues with the “Tribal Chief” as king.
Sami Zayn was able to end Roman Reigns’ dominant run in a split second.
However, when the final bell rang in WWE Elimination Chamber 2023 at the Bell Center in Montreal, Canada on Saturday night, the “Tribal Chief” was still recognized as king. Reigns will now advance to WrestleMania in April to face off against Cody Rhodes, winner of the 2023 Royal Rumble.
After several tight decisions that could have gone either way, things took a dramatic turn when Reigns backed into Zayn and crushed the referee in the corner. Zayn crushed Reigns with the Helluva Kick and would have claimed the pinfall victory had an official been present. This absence gave Jimmy Uso the opportunity to disrupt a Superkick and Uso Splash on Zayn. Despite the rush, Zayn somehow managed to pull out to the delight of his audience in his hometown of Montreal.
Moments later, after a second referee was KO’d, Jey Uso emerged and stood between Reigns, who was holding a steel chair, and Zayn. To test Jey’s loyalty to The Bloodline, Reigns handed him the chair. But when Jey hesitated, Reigns slapped him across the face in disgust. The moment created an opportunity for Zayn to recover enough to attempt a spear on Reigns, but the champion quickly moved out of the way and the move dropped Jey instead. Reigns then punished Zayn with several chair shots and crushed him with a spear to retain his crown.
Kevin Owens would save Zayn from the post-game punishment, devastating both Reigns and Jimmy Uso in the process. KO then left a dazed Reigns in the corner of the ring for Zayn to finish with a Helluva Kick.
This is how the entire WWE Elimination Chamber 2023: Reigns vs. Zayn went.
