World Wrestling Entertainment founder Vince McMahon resigned from his position with the organization and its parent company on Friday after a former employee accused him of sexual misconduct. He has denied the allegations.

WWE President Nick Khan announced the 78-year-old's resignation in an email to employees, noting that he would be stepping down from his roles as TKO board chairman and on the TKO board and that he would no longer hold office role in WWE, according to NBC News. (Last year, TKO Group Holdings was created when WWE merged with Endeavor's Ultimate Fighting Championship.)

Earlier this week, former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit claiming she was a “victim of physical and emotional abuse, sexual assault and human trafficking in WWE.” The lawsuit alleges that McMahon forced Grant into a sexual relationship, offered her a job and promotions in return, and distributed sexual images and videos of her to a variety of people – including other WWE employees, according to a report in Time.

Grant's attorney, Ann Callis, told CNN on Thursday that the lawsuit seeks to hold accountable “two WWE executives who sexually abused and acted upon plaintiff Janel Grant, as well as the organization that enabled or turned a blind eye to the abuse.” then swept it under the carpet.” “.

McMahon has denied the allegations, saying in a statement Friday: “I stand by my previous statement that Ms. Grant's lawsuit is full of lies and obscenely fabricated incidents that never occurred, and represents a vindictive distortion of the truth.” I “I intend to vigorously defend myself against these unfounded allegations and look forward to clearing my name.”

He continued: “Out of respect for the WWE Universe, the extraordinary TKO Company and its board members and shareholders, partners and constituents, and all the employees and Superstars who have helped make WWE the global leader it is today, I did it.” I have decided to resign from my chairmanship and the TKO board with immediate effect.”

McMahon took over WWE in 1982 from his father and founder of the then World Wrestling Federation, Vincent J McMahon. In July 2022, McMahon stepped down from his role as CEO and chairman following allegations of sexual misconduct. After an investigation into these allegations by WWE was completed in November 2022, McMahon returned to the WWE board of directors in January 2023.
