Roman Reigns has passed the 1,000 day mark as world champion. But the closer we get to WWE SmackDown this Friday night, the more interesting it might be.

According to the latest information from Fightful Select, Thursday night’s creative plans suggest there will be a celebration to commemorate Reigns and his 1,000 days as a champion – a mark he hit at last Saturday’s Night of Champions. Additionally, there are reportedly internal memos mentioning the unveiling of a “new WWE Universal Championship.” Interestingly, when the new WWE Championship belt was unveiled in 2013, Fightful also learned that such a ceremony would be similar to that of Roman’s cousin The Rock.

Regardless of whether a new belt is unveiled, however, Reigns has a lot more to worry about. Last Saturday, he and Solo Sikoa challenged Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship, but came away empty-handed. That’s because Jimmy Uso turned on him, superkicking Reigns twice, effectively costing them the tag title. Not to mention the possible ending of The Bloodline. In response to the shocking events, WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi, the father of Sikoa and The Usos, sent out several cryptic tweets.

Reigns has held championship gold since Payback on August 30, 2020 when he defeated “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman in a Triple Threat Match to become the Universal Champion. He added the WWE Championship to his collection at WrestleMania 38 by defeating Brock Lesnar in a winner-takes-all match and has held both titles ever since. However, in terms of a potential new title, it’s important to keep in mind that these things are always subject to change.
