On Monday Night Raw, presented August 21 at the Videotron Center, Kevin Owens will make his grand return to Quebec, where he performed in front of a few hundred fans every week before making the leap to WWE in 2015.
Owens missed WWE’s return to the old capital last year and is looking forward to the reunion. “Several things have helped me on my journey that led me to WWE, and the fight at Center Mgr Marcoux is one of them,” he said. Without the experience gained over these years, I would not have been able to climb the highest peaks.
The tag team champion with Sami Zayn still remembers those much less glorious days. “Every week we fought in front of 80, 150 or 300 to 400 people. I’m excited to be returning to Quebec and sharing these moments with wrestling fans and those who were present during the Small Halls era. I am convinced that I will see again the people who were present at the Center Mgr. Marcoux.”
“I’m really excited to be returning to Quebec and so is Sami to follow the one who played ice hockey until he was 13 before turning to wrestling. There’s never a more important week of the year than your return to Quebec. I lack the words to explain my feelings. We love fighting in Quebec and so do the other wrestlers who appreciate the excited crowd.
A first for Quebec
Quebec will host a WWE televised event for the first time. “It will make the event even more special,” he said of Monday Night Raw. It’s something special to know that we played a part in that. It’s a sign of trust in the city hosting a televised event. In the past I’ve never been given good reasons why we didn’t come to Quebec more often.
“Since the announcement of Monday Night Raw, officials have been telling me tickets are selling by the ton,” added the 39-year-old native of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Quebec deserves a big show and participation in the rotation of televised events. It’s a market that’s as good as Montreal and the American markets. Our leaders will see him in August.”
A new role
Lately, Owens has been taking on a new role in televised galas, a role that his character easily loses patience with. “It’s new for the viewers, but it’s not new for the people behind the scenes,” he said with a smile. With Sami, who is like a brother to me, losing patience is not the hardest part. I already told him. My new role is an extension of what we experience behind the scenes. We have a dream life, but we need to have fun. I’m enjoying this new role. I hope people enjoy it and that it continues.”
Still champions in Quebec?
With two events still on the agenda before the trip to Quebec, can Owens and Zayn retain their title as Tag Team Champions? Money in the Bank takes place on Saturday and SummerSlam in early August.
“I don’t know, but I want it with all my heart. For 20 years our careers have been linked and we have achieved a lot. It would be another great honor if we could emerge as champions in the ring in Quebec.”
