WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon, a former wrestler and daughter of the entertainment empire’s founders, announced Thursday that she is taking a leave of absence.
The announcement was made in a tweet on Thursday afternoon.
“Starting tomorrow I will be taking a leave of absence from most of my duties at WWE,” she wrote. “WWE is a lifelong legacy for me and I look forward to returning to the company I love after taking this time to focus on my family.”
The McMahon family and Stephanie herself have been part of wrestling for decades, spawning brands like Raw, NXT and SmackDown. Despite being challenged by upstarts, WWE’s pay-per-view events are still major draws and television shows are consistent ratings winners.
McMahon has worked at WWE since she was a young girl and joined the family business full-time after graduating from college. She began airing for WWE (then known as the World Wrestling Federation) and has been involved in several major storylines. She was once the WWF Women’s Championship winner and competed in a storied “I Quit” match with father Vince McMahon.
She has sporadically scaled back on TV appearances. In December 2013, she became Chief Brand Officer, working with advertisers, media, business partners and investors. She is married to WWE Hall of Famer Triple H, also known as Paul Levesque. The couple have three daughters.
Starting tomorrow, I’ll be taking a vacation from most of my duties at WWE. WWE is a lifelong legacy for me and I look forward to returning to the company I love after taking this time to focus on my family.
