Amid a media storm since announcing in an interview with a Spanish media outlet that he wanted to give up cinema, Xavier Dolan confirmed on Friday that this was indeed the case.

At 34, the Quebecer confirms that he wants to rebuild his career as a director.
“I said I wanted to quit filmmaking and I’m happy with that decision,” he wrote in an Instagram post.
Xavier Dolan adds that he is fine and thanks his fans for the support over the past few hours.
However, a statement released by the Goodwin agency suggests that he will continue to get involved in projects on television.
“I no longer want to deal with the fear associated with the need to perform, to be successful, to be liked or not. I no longer want to be dependent on others. “I want to be independent,” we can read.
Last November, the director considered taking a break, a reminder of the stress behind all his projects.
