Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Beijing on Thursday with Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, who arrived to attend the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.
Xi pointed out that Mongolia is a natural partner in the Belt and Road cooperation, and expressed his hope that Mongolia will play a more important role in the initiative’s high-quality cooperation, taking advantage of its geographical location that will connect Europe and Asia.
China will, as always, help Mongolia revive its economy, properly advance the construction of relevant border ports and open new channels for connectivity between the two countries, Xi said.
He also pointed out that the country is ready to expand trilateral cooperation between China, Mongolia and Russia and make steady progress in building the China-Mongolia-Russia economic corridor.
Khurelsukh said the results of the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation would provide strong new impetus to global economic growth.
Mongolia is willing to promote cooperation with China in areas such as economy and trade, connectivity, mineral resources and energy, desertification prevention and control and ecological development, as well as intensify cultural and inter-city cooperation, he added.
The Mongolian president praised China’s important role in global peace and stability, saying his country attaches importance to strengthening trilateral cooperation between Mongolia, China and Russia and is willing to promote interaction and cooperation with China on multilateral issues.
Both leaders witnessed the signing of several bilateral cooperation documents in areas such as the green and low-carbon sectors and the digital economy.
The events were attended by senior Chinese officials including Cai Qi and Wang Yi.
