Chinese President Xi Jinping met on Friday with Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong, who traveled to Beijing to attend the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.
Xi pointed out that China and Vietnam have developed a deep friendship of “comradeship and brotherhood,” stressing that the two countries advance their own cause of socialist modernization, regard bilateral relations as a priority in their respective foreign policies, and promote the development of the Both countries see it as a priority, others see it as an opportunity for their own development.
Facing a rapidly changing international landscape, both countries must work together to tread the path of socialism and build a community with a shared future of strategic importance, the Chinese president said.
Likewise, he called on China and Vietnam to chart a path to prosperity and strength that suits their respective national conditions and strengthen cooperation to achieve the synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and the “Two Corridors and Two Corridors” plan “to push forward circle”.
The countries should also consolidate cooperation in emerging areas such as e-commerce and further strengthen the bond between the people of China and Vietnam, especially among younger generations, Xi stressed.
For his part, Thuong recalled that in the past decade, Belt and Road has become an important platform for high-quality international cooperation characterized by openness and inclusiveness, boosting the development of relevant countries and promoting friendship among their peoples.
President Xi’s speech at the opening ceremony of the forum laid out strategic plans and concrete measures that will have a major impact on future international cooperation and global development, the Vietnamese leader commented.
Thuong said Vietnam always views China’s development as an opportunity and supports a socialist China to develop and realize the goal of becoming a great modern socialist country within the planned time frame.
Vietnam believes China will make a greater contribution to promoting world peace and development, he added.
The Vietnamese side is willing to intensify high-level strategic communication with China and continuously enrich the contents of the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership under new circumstances, Thuong confirmed.
Senior Chinese officials Cai Qi and Wang Yi were present at the meeting.
