BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping said Thursday that China will make more efforts to push global biodiversity governance to a new level.
Xi made the remarks in a video-delivered speech at the opening ceremony of the high-level segment of the second part of the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
China has made active efforts to promote ecological progress and biodiversity protection, Xi said, adding that the diversity, stability and sustainability of the ecosystem have improved.
“We found a way to protect biodiversity with Chinese characteristics,” Xi said.
Going forward, China will continue to push for ecological progress and plan its development in the context of promoting harmonious coexistence between people and nature, Xi said.
“We will respond to the United Nations Decade of Action Plan for Ecosystem Restoration and launch a large number of key projects to protect and restore biodiversity. We will deepen international exchanges and cooperation,” Xi said.
“We will do our best to support and assist developing countries through the Belt and Road Initiative, the International Coalition for Green Development and the Kunming Biodiversity Fund to take global biodiversity governance to a new level.” lift,” he added.
