After 13 years of good and loyal service, Xiaomi’s Android overlay MIUI will be retired. Instead, the manufacturer will offer HyperOS to better integrate the brand’s smartphones into its connected objects.
MIUI, it’s almost over! The Android overlay introduced in August 2010 is being replaced by HyperOS, a new software that will arrive with the Xiaomi 14 series. However, the manufacturer’s ambition goes beyond smartphones: HyperOS needs to create connections between all components of the Xiaomi ecosystem, and there are a lot of people on the balcony. In fact, the group is at the forefront of a very comprehensive catalog with 200 product categories, ranging from connected household items to electric cars.

The Internet of Things in sight
Lei Jun, the boss of Xiaomi, explain The company’s approach began in 2014 when IoT (Internet of Things) activity began to grow. In 2017, the idea arose to develop an operating system to unify all of the group’s devices and applications. A development of almost ten years, but one that has paid off: HyperOS is actually based on “the very advanced integration of Android and the internally developed Vela system”. Vela is an IoT platform that was introduced at the end of 2020.

It was necessary to rewrite the architecture to ensure that connections between HyperOS and the “billions of devices” could be established smoothly. So a lot of ambition… but not much to look forward to! Xiaomi doesn’t reveal anything about possible interface changes or additional functions, but that doesn’t mean that the manufacturer wants to mix everything up.
So meet the Xiaomi 14 which will introduce HyperOS. The features of this new series have also become known, and for good reason: the smartphones will be presented in China on October 27th. You could get a 6.4-inch OLED screen (120Hz and 2,800 nits), a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, three 50MP photo sensors, 90W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, and a 4,600mAh Integrate battery.
