Actor Adan Canto, known for his leading roles in series such as “Narcos”, “The Cleaning Lady” and “Designated Survivor”, passed away last Monday (8), Deadline announced. He was 42 years old and suffering from appendix cancer.
For the last two years, Canto played gangster Arman Morales in “The Cleaning Lady.” Filming for the third season began in December, but due to illness, the actor was removed from the cast so he could undergo treatment. The plan was for Adan to return to work after his recovery at the end of the season.
However, his battle with the disease was shortlived and he did not survive. Warner Bros., responsible for the Mexican's first roles on North American soil, commented on the loss in a press release. “We are heartbroken to learn of the death of Adan Canto. A wonderful actor and dear friend, we are honored to have him in the Warner Bros. family. Television and Fox Entertainment since its U.S. debut in “The Following” over a decade ago,” Fox and WBTV said in a statement.
“Most recently, he lit up the screen in 'The Cleaning Lady' with a powerful performance that showcased his artistry, range, depth and vulnerability. This is an incredible loss and we mourn with his wife Stephanie, his children and family. “We will miss Adan very much,” he concluded.

Canto's representatives at UTA, Entertainment360 and Viewpoint also issued a statement. “Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who saw this were forever changed. “Many will miss him very much,” the text says.

Canto was born in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico and grew up in Del Rio, Texas. His musical career began early, composing songs for Mexican television shows and films when he was young. Adan made his stage debut in an adaptation of “All About My Mother” by Pedro Almodóvar and his first role on television was in the 2009 series “Estado de Gracia”.
Canto then appeared in successful productions such as “Narcos”, “Designated Survivor”, “XMen: Days of Future Past”, in which the hero Sunspot played, and “The Following”. In addition to acting, Adan also worked behind the camera and directed two short films: “Before Tomorrow” in 2014 and “The Shot” in 2020.
Adan Canto is survived by his wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, and two children, Roman Alder, 3, and Eve Josephine, 1 1/2 years old.
