The decision was made by Judge Flávia Viveiros de Castro of the 6th Civil Court in Rio’s West Zone. The producer still has the opportunity to appeal the verdict in another instance.

The characters from A Turma do Cabralzinho were allegedly copied in a project by Xuxa Promoções e Produções, which also featured stories for children about the 500year arrival of the Portuguese in Brazil. The art, which brought in millions in profits, comes from the publicist Leonardo Soltz.

The lawsuit was opened in 2004 and the parties even tried to reach an agreement but without result. Finally, the competent expert concluded that the entrepreneur should receive R$ 65,201,656.18.

The calculation takes into account the print run of the magazine, the rendering of likenesses of the characters in products and other publications, and the process time, which was approximately 19 years. The value also includes the cost of the process.

In response to a request for comment from g1, moderator Xuxa’s advisor reported that he was not commenting on any legal news.
