SPOILER ALERT: This post contains spoilers from the episode “Yellowstone,” “A Knife and No Coin,” Season 5, Episode 8, which premiered Sunday, January 1st on Paramount Network.
Happy New Year! The last time we got in touch with the Duttons was before Christmas and Jamie was planning to sue his father. Here’s to this week’s midseason finale – the last episode until summer! – We meet up with old friends, plan assassinations and say goodbye to a couple of Texas cowboys. Dry your tears and sip some whiskey as you catch up on this week’s recap:
More of diversity
Young Rip (Kyle Red Silverstein) seems pretty confident throwing his first person into the Dutton murder pit. I would sweat more!
Young John (Josh Lucas) was heartwarming as he discussed branding with Young Rip and its eventual acceptance by his fellow cowboys. After a wandering youth, Rip finally has a home and family!
Oh hello Jimmy (Jefferson White)! We missed you!
Even though the 6666 turned Jimmy into a real cowboy, he’s still distracted enough with Emily (Kathryn Kelly) taking off her top to miss breakfast. At least he’s grown in his private life too!
Emily definitely has the tougher job sonogram horses than riding and roping them all day. Jimmy should make her dinner.
At least he makes up for it with foot massages. Could this be the healthiest relationship on Yellowstone?
Big laughs about John (Kevin Costner) coming straight to Monica (Kelsey Asbille) to see if Kayce (Luke Grimes) can run the farm. Smart man!
Wow, John hugged Kayce and told him, “I love you son?” That’s ominous.
I’m obsessed with all the gruff companies that advertise during “Yellowstone”: Tractor Supply Co., Ariat, Filson, Tecovas. You make me feel like such a tough outdoorsman that I’m sure to buy myself a ticket to Gerard Butler’s upcoming action film, simply titled Plane.
Jamie (Wes Bentley) has perfected his gorgeous grin. You’re such a jerk, Jamie!
This is a great crossover between two Dutton men giving speeches.
John’s final word to the press before leaving was surprisingly poignant.
John teaches Clara (Lilli Kay) how to fight with “menace”… excited to see how this mentorship develops!
I guess Beth (Kelly Reilly) doesn’t like Summer (Piper Perabo) anymore? It’s hard to keep up…
“Where does your father live? I’m going to fuck him.” Thank god, Beth.
Beth’s wild eyes make me nervous…what’s she going to do with Jamie?!?
Wow, Teeter (Jennifer Landon) also said “I love you” to Colby (Denim Richards) in this episode. So many emotions!
Why is Jamie even surprised that Beth shows up in the middle of the night and does something crazy?
Ouch! That rock on the head would cause brain damage to Jamie, right? I know it’s a TV show, but oops!
Wait… Beth didn’t know the train station was a communal burial ground? It seems like everyone involved with the ranch knew about it!
“Future generations that you don’t have…” Ouch, Jamie! Too low!
Ugh Sarah (Dawn Olivieri), just stay up! Jamie almost had the upper hand with Beth and you took it from him.
Beth, you can’t kill Jamie and dump him at the train station. You would be high on the suspect list.
Oh, but now Jamie will try to kill Beth? Can these two siblings ever get along?
The story goes on
See you again this summer!
