Yoán Moncada will play his first game of the season on Thursday, a day after fouling a ball off his foot. The White Sox third baseman is not included team line-up while trying to win their streak against the Giants.
Moncada was obviously in pain after taking the foul ball off his foot in the fourth inning of Wednesday’s game. He hung in the batter’s box and got a hit, but after rounding first base, Moncada seemed to be in even more pain. He sat on the floor for several minutes while the coaches examined him, but once again the pain broke down to stay in the game. He looked no worse three innings later. Moncada ripped an RBI single with bases loaded. It’s currently unclear if his foot worsened overnight and if it will keep him out for long.
So far, Moncada has been one of the team’s best hitters. He’s starting out at .440/.462/.840 with two homers and five RBI.
Hanser Alberto will start third instead of Moncada. It’s Alberto’s first start this year but he has appeared in three games.
The White Sox also lost Eloy Jiménez to injury on Wednesday morning. The team put him on the 10-day IL with a thigh strain and expect him to be out for two to three weeks.
