Yoan arrives with all the charisma we know from his first project of the last five years, an album that he describes as a nod to the women he has met throughout his life.
2014 La Voix winner Yoan will release his third career album and his first 100% English-language album, Something In My Blood, on Friday. If the 28-year-old singer has chosen new country sounds to accompany his Johnny Cash-style voice, however, this artistic change does not explain the title of his new project.
“People will make the connection to a new country and ask themselves: Is this in your blood?” Yes, but my relationship with women and seduction is the connection that is at the top of the list,” says the singer-songwriter , with whom Le Journal spoke, agreed without embarrassment.
Mom’s opinion
Yoan doesn’t hide it, he loves the energy that women radiate and nurtures the attention they give him. However, in order to be at peace with the theme of his album, he had to know – without knowing it – what his mother thought of it.
“I wasn’t afraid in the first place, but looking back I was afraid it would make my mother uncomfortable [que je parle des femmes sur mon album]“, he confides to the Journal. “I had this preconceived notion of being seductive and disrespectful [envers les femmes] went together. “You can be seductive and a true gentleman, just as you can be absolutely seductive and disrespectful,” he puts things into perspective.
“When I played my songs to my mother, she said to me: It’s very good,” he says, later admitting that it was a mental barrier that he himself needed.

As an only child of a father who worked a lot, Yoan grew up surrounded by women. At school with his friends or at home with his mother, grandmother, cousins and aunts, he found comfort in the sensitivity of the fairer sex.
“I made people laugh, but it didn’t bother me,” the main actor recalls with a laugh. “I have always loved this subtlety and sensitivity, perhaps it was a reference for me because of my mother, but also because of the women I was with [en vieillissant] “They were extraordinary people,” explains Yoan.
A first project in English
With his latest work, “Since Longtemps,” released in 2018 and entirely in French, Yoan felt the need to honor his Quebec audience.
“We are in Quebec and it is the people of Quebec who bring Yoan to life. They don’t owe me anything, they choose to listen to my music and buy tickets [de spectacle]» he explains modestly.
Yoan listens to his intuition and takes inspiration from the late Johnny Cash. He believes “Something In My Blood” is exactly the project he needed to produce at this point in his life.
“I really found my sweet spot with this album,” says the man who has teamed up with Nashville producer Luke Sheets to bring his next work to the world.
The singer from Ferme-Neuve near Mont-Laurier makes no secret of his ambition to take his music beyond the Canadian-American border.
“I am aware that there are many artists, but I like to believe in it. I’m sincere, I work with my heart and I’m always ready to work on myself, so I say to myself, why not me!” he says openly.
Something In My Blood will be available on all streaming platforms on October 27th. Yoan will begin his Quebec tour on January 19th.
