Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, spokesman for Québec Solidaire, defended his plan to introduce a tax for citizens with wealth of more than one million, saying that the measure will simply improve services for everyone, including the middle class.

“You spend a lot of time talking about the middle class, but the truth is you don’t know the middle class. The average salary in Quebec is about $55,000 a year,” said Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois.
The chairman of the Coalition avenir Québec denounces the introduction of a new tax.
“A man who saved his whole life, who bought a house. Today it doesn’t take long before it’s worth a million. This person pays a 35% tax in addition to paying capital gains tax if they choose to leave their home to their children. They will be double taxed,” Mr Legault said.
