- A video on TikTok showed how to fold socks, possibly incorrectly
For many, folding socks may seem like a simple and straightforward task compared to the hassle of changing the sheets in a double bed yourself.
It should be easy to gather the socks into a ball and store them in a drawer.
However, people have been shocked to discover an alternative ‘hack’ when it comes to folding their socks.
A video on TikTok by @sockshopuk shows how you can extend the life of your socks by folding them differently.

The video shows a demonstration of the “hack” in which the user first places one sock over the other to form a cross before folding each half of the horizontal sock inward and wrapping it around the vertically placed sock.
Then roll the vertical sock into the middle and insert it into the other sock.
The “hack” then ends with the sock being rolled up into a compact square, eliciting mixed reactions from onlookers.
In response to the video, one TikTok user said, “I don’t have time for this.”
Another added: “My goodness… I could have sorted ten couples in that time,” to which the video’s creator replied: “We’ll compete against you.”
In fact, many users were skeptical about the extra time it would take compared to just balling up the socks before putting them away, even if it would make the socks last longer.
Although it might seem like it would be better to fold socks into a square to save more space overall, people seemed put off by the method because it seemed unnecessarily complicated.
A third user joked: “Life is too short to spend hours folding socks.”
A fourth insisted that this was quite a “wrong” comment, commenting: “Rest assured I won’t do it that way.”
