Backstreet Boys AJ McLean, who is in Montreal this week, posted a “reel” on Instagram in which, like many Montrealers, he decries the ubiquity of orange cones in the metropolis.

AJ McLean, who is on a promotional tour for the reality show he hosts, “The Fashion Hero: A New Kind of Beautiful,” apparently made a stop downtown Thursday morning.
“I noticed something. You have a serious problem with those orange cones. Seriously, orange cones everywhere! This is why I will be running for mayor of Montreal in 2025. “AJ for mayor!” My first task will be to get rid of the orange cones! We’ll be making pink cones instead, and there will be significantly fewer of them. Cones, cones, cones, the cones have to go!!! So trust me, AJ will be mayor in 2024-2025. Look for AJ! Thank you Montreal!”
A marketing stunt or a real observation: his little video posted on his show’s Instagram account, @thefashionherotv, sparked a reaction two hours after it was posted.
Unfortunately for AJ, he will not be able to run for mayor. To do this, he must be registered on the city’s voter roll on September 1 of the calendar year in which the election is to take place and must have lived in the area continuously for at least 12 months.
Does Backstreet Boy have an address in Montreal without us knowing?
Recently, a Montreal resident was filmed throwing orange cones in the middle of the street, reflecting the frustration of many Montrealers with the proliferation of this signage.
