- The video went viral on TikTok after a user showed how to use the humble peeler
- Users were stunned by the hack, with many saying they “never knew”
Many Britons who have had to cook a Sunday roast for the family know all too well the unrelenting misery of peeling potatoes.
But what if there was a way to cut peeling time in half?
A video went viral on TikTok after a woman revealed how she peeled her potatoes.
A video went viral on TikTok after Jenni-abs, aka @jenniabs3, showed how you can cut your potato prep time by at least half. With a quick and easy motion, she sweeps the potato up and down, completely removing the skin in one go
The way Jenni-abs uses the peeler is something you need to learn quickly, but you should always be careful and separate yourself from peeling
Jenni-abs, known as @jenniabs3 on the social media page, showed her followers how to use the humble peeler properly.
And people were stunned by this discovery, with many saying they “seriously question everything I’m doing in life right now.”
In the video, which has well over 627,000 likes, the TikToker showed her followers how the peeler swung back and forth.
She began by saying, “Did you know that potato peelers rotate back and forth because you can go down as you peel, but you can also go forward – and you can peel the whole thing super fast?”
Jenni-abs demonstrated the back and forth method on a large sweet potato.
She holds the potato with one hand and slices along the vegetable without taking her hand off when she reaches the bottom.
With a quick and easy motion, she sweeps the potato up and down, completely removing the skin in one go.
She continued, “Without actually having to lift the peeler off the veg.”
The way Jenni-abs uses the peeler is something you need to learn quickly, but you should always be careful and separate yourself from peeling.
After demonstrating the hack with peak efficiency, she asks her followers if they go peeling the “old school” way or swiping back and forth.
We all knew kitchen gadgets are meant to make our lives easier because turns out we’ve been using potato peelers wrong all along
And hundreds of commenters left a message below the TikTok video – most shocked by the cool hack.
One person said, ‘That’s why we need cooking classes in high school.’ How do I experience that now, at 26?’

And a second wrote: “I’m even cooking properly at this point.” Lol. Thanks for another great tip!’
And another said: “I used to get mad because I thought mine was just loose.”
While a fourth person commented, “Wow, I didn’t know that.”
Another TikTok user wrote, “I’m almost 50 and I’ve peeled thousands of potatoes over my years but I never knew that!! ‘I was living a lie.’
Another stunned user wrote, “Oh my god I was years old today when I found out.”
However, some Jenni-abs followers claimed that this hack could potentially cause people to cut themselves.
And so she shot a follow-up video in which she clarified and addressed the safety concerns.
In it, she said, “It’s literally impossible to cut yourself doing it my way because you never actually lift the blade off the potato, so the blade doesn’t actually have the ability to cut you.”
“But if you do it the old way, you pick up the blade, put it down, you pick it up, put it down — then there’s a chance you’ll accidentally miss and cut your skin.”
“If you’re a clumsy person in the kitchen or just scared, you can steady the potato with a fork while it’s cooking so your skin isn’t in the way at all.”
