A tragedy Singer Alexandre Pires' show was canceled in the early hours of this Saturday (30). A man fought with his girlfriend and threw himself into the sea just before the attraction began. The event would take place on a stage set up aboard the MSC Preziosa cruise, which departed Santos and will take tourists to Copacabana Beach to watch the New Year's Eve fireworks display. THE TIME spoke to video producer Lucas Félix, 29, who is on the ship.

“It was around 2 a.m., 2:30 a.m. Just as Alexandre Pires was about to take the stage, production staff arrived and said that the show would be delayed because a man was at sea. They said the show wouldn't happen until he was found. Afterwards I spoke to one of the producers. “The guy had an argument with his girlfriend and jumped from the 15th floor,” says the young man.

“The ship remained stationary for almost three hours. Really long time. Several boats went down to start searching, but they didn't find it quickly. Then the Coast Guard arrived and took over the search. I don't know what happened to his girlfriend. “It’s actually a tragedy,” says Lucas Félix. The incident occurred near São Sebastião (SP).

The ship left the port of Santos on the coast of São Paulo and will also pass through Armação de Búzios before arriving in Rio de Janeiro. Alexandre Pires regretted the incident via social media and made further statements about the cancellation.

“My condolences go out to the family and friends of the person who fell from the balcony of his cabin into the sea at around 12:30 a.m. today during the MSC Preziosa cruise. “I ask God to comfort the hearts of everyone at this time,” he wrote.

“We spoke to the organizers and agreed not to hold the show, which was supposed to start at 1am. We were not yet on stage when this tragic event occurred. Our mission is to bring joy and promote culture through music. “Which would not have been possible due to the incident. I apologize,” he said.
