A 36-year-old woman was found dead at her parents’ home in Louisiana. She suffered from locked-in syndrome and was fused with the couch.
“The scene was hideous. I’ve seen terrible things in my life, but nothing like it.” On January 3, the body of a 36-year-old woman was discovered in a home in suburban Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Melted into her parents’ sofa, Lacey Ellen Fletcher lay on her own stool, littered with insects, visibly abandoned to their fate for several years. according to dr Ewell Dewitt Bickham III, the young woman’s body had scabs so deep they reached to the bone.
According to the initial findings of the investigation the victim suffered locked-in syndrome (Syndrome d’confinement in French), a neurological condition characterized by complete paralysis of the muscles despite being awake and conscious. Lacey Ellen Fletcher’s health began to deteriorate in the early 2000s. She was antisocial and cut off all contact with the outside world around 2011 or 2012, District Attorney Sam D’Aquilla told the Daily Mail. Her concern then fell on her parents, Shelia and Clay Fletcher, who ended up completely neglecting her. The young woman had not seen a doctor for over 20 years. “It’s inconceivable that we could write a horror film about this story,” said Dr. Bickham.
Parents’ life sentence
Given the situation, the victim’s parents were charged with manslaughter. They will be presented to a grand jury at the Clinton Courthouse on May 2nd. “I probably won’t even have to open my mouth, the picture will say it all,” says Bickham. During the trial, the jury must determine the level of responsibility of the accused. If convicted of murder without intent, they face life imprisonment. “We hope nothing like this ever happens again,” said Sam D’Aquilla.
