Less than a year after his conviction for sexual assault, deposed ex-politician André Boisclair managed to secure his release on various conditions.
“The Commission believes that a release at this stage of your sentence, with follow-up, conditions and monitoring, remains an appropriate measure in the long term to ensure public protection while promoting social reintegration,” we can read in a decision, issued recently following a hearing held on Monday.
According to the Quebec Conditional Liberation Commission, Boisclair would have prevailed after being refused release in November.
“Her reflection has evolved,” we note in the 8-page document, considering her “current level of danger is low.”
The former leader of the Parti Québécois has been serving a sentence of two years less a day since July 2022 for two sexual assaults committed on men in 2014 and 2015.
