YouTube adds ChatGPT-style AI to its videos – 01net

YouTube announces the introduction of generative AI to its platform. As Google explains, this artificial intelligence is intended to help users read, moderate comments and understand videos.

YouTube, Google’s video-sharing platform, is switching to generative artificial intelligence. In a post on its website, the Mountain View giant explains that it has begun testing the integration of a chatbot, similar to ChatGPT or Google Bard, with the videos on the site.

What does YouTube AI do?

YouTube’s AI turns around two functions, points out Google. First, generative AI will enrich the comments section. At the request of creators and videographers, AI summarizes the top trends in comments to help internet users understand the conversation at a glance. The section is divided into several topics. You’ll see a Topics tab right next to the New Comments section. AI also intervenes in the moderation of comments. Videographers can use it to directly delete comments on specific selected topics.

Above all, Google will integrate a chatbot into the YouTube interface. The conversation robot helps Internet users understand the video they are watching. The chatbot answers questions about the sequence “without interrupting the reading,” says Google. The chatbot can also generate a quiz on the content of the video and provide the answers. You can also get a full summary of the video.

In short, you no longer have to request ChatGPT Plus and a plugin to summarize a video that you don’t want to watch to the end. It is a valuable tool for teachers or students in the learning process. The chatbot is accessible via the “Questions” tab.

An experimental feature

Currently, YouTube’s generative AI is only available on a small amount of videos. As Google explains, you may not have access to generative AI right now. The company is cautiously starting “small with limited availability” to collect the opinions of Internet users.

Note that YouTube Premium plan subscribers can activate and test the functionality today at this address. The subscription costs 12.99 euros per month and gives access to experimental features developed by Google.

For now, the AI is content to intervene in the comments “on a small number of videos in English,” Google nuances. For its part, the conversation robot will be offered to premium subscribers in the coming weeks.
