A YouTuber has been accused of intentionally causing a plane crash to get views on the social network. As a result, United States aviation authorities were hunting for the subject’s license who, the social network booklet appears to be broadcasting, released a new video of the subject warning that he will be out of flight for a while.
Trevor Jacob was an Olympic snowboarder turned YouTuber. Last December, he released a video titled I Crashed My Plane, which garnered nearly 2.5 million views.
In the video, the plane crashes into the mountains of California’s Los Padres National Forest shortly after Jacob parachuted from the plane.
The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration, USA) analyzed the images and concluded that the accident was intentional.
“On 11/24/2021 [dia da gravação]You have shown a lack of care, judgment and responsibility by choosing to jump from an airplane just to take footage of the accident,” the FAA statement sent to Jacob said.
The clues left by the Youtuber were several. After the plane’s propeller stopped, Jacob did not attempt to restart it or perform any other emergency procedures. Moreover, he did not even inform the nearest air traffic controllers about the impending accident. And like a good YouTuber, he recovered the plane’s cameras after the crash.
Jacob also wore a parachute, which he hadn’t done on several previous flights, and filmed the jump with a selfie stick to demonstrate he had everything planned.
Even other YouTubers criticized him, saying the punishment should have been earlier and harsher. In the comments on the video, Jacob was also heavily criticized for the successful recording.
With his permit to fly revoked, Jacob cannot take another permit for a period of one year.
