As part of his activities in Algeria, Rodríguez Hernández will travel to the provinces where the Sahrawi refugee camps are located and meet with the authorities of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).
The Cuban delegation brings to the great event a message from the PCC and the Cuban people, reaffirming to the Polisario Front the firm belief that we will never stop accompanying them in their struggle for their independence and sovereignty.
In statements to Prensa Latina agency, Salek Baba Hasanna, head of the preparatory subcommittee on external relations and information for the event, said: “It is a great honor and a great pleasure to have the participation of Cuba in our Congress, a sister country that we admire in its revolutionary struggle and resistance.”
This Wednesday morning, the Cuban partisan leader began her agenda by paying homage to the fallen of the Algerian War of Independence at the famous El Maqam Echahidç monument, where she signed the guest book.
It is a monument composed of three huge fronds of concrete palm trees coming together and reaching 92 meters into the sky, representing the union of agriculture, culture and industry that made this a great country. Opened in 1982, it is an ever-present backdrop to the city, shaping its identity.
Claim to the just cause of the struggle for sovereignty
1,466 kilometers from Algiers, in the city and province of Tindouf, in camps housing more than 170,000 Saharawi refugees, this XVI. Congress of the Polisario Front aimed at justifying their long struggle.
This was also confirmed in statements made to Prensa Latina by the member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front and the head of the preparatory subcommittee on external relations and information, Salek Baba Hasanna.
Baba Hasanna reaffirmed the unchanging principles of his people’s independence and sovereignty and that this will be the first conclave following the resumption of armed struggle “after Morocco’s violation of the ceasefire.”
In dialogue with Prensa Latina, he also stressed that the meeting comes at a critical time and with special connotations, “because restarting the war requires a new strategy, a new vision and therefore it is also about restating other priorities in these circumstances”.
The senior official of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) highlighted the attendance of more than 300 delegates from Latin American countries – including Cuba -, Africa, the Middle East and Europe at the event, as well as representatives of numerous parties, politicians and diplomats from nations that that recognize SADR and solidarity groups.
